Are you wondering about maid service? Each week, many of us face the recurring job of doing basic household cleaning tasks. While some jobs require daily action to keep up – things like washing dirty dishes, sweeping floors, and picking up items left in rooms around the house – other jobs seem able to be put off for a little bit.

Every week or two it becomes apparent if no one takes care of these tasks. Perhaps we are able to make a quick meal and stick dishes in a dishwasher, but no one really cleans the stove or counter tops thoroughly. Or how about bathrooms? Everyone is quickly in and out, but nobody actually cleans up more than quick basics behind themselves. Sooner or later, it is embarrassing at best and unhealthy at worst!

Enter the blessed maid service!!! Though today they may be called house cleaners, or even housekeepers if they are in the home more than one day a week, this is the rescue team that many dream will arrive.

Great Maid Service Teams

A professional team of cleaners will show up consistently, bearing all the supplies (our versions are non-toxic if possible) and bringing the best equipment like vacuums and microfiber cloths. Each trained team member should know what area is their responsibility and get right to work.

For our Sparrow Crews, this is an exciting time. To start on a familiar home and move systematically through each area until it is clean is actually satisfying and rewarding work.

Kitchen cleaners make sure that counters and small appliances are wiped clean. Refrigerator exteriors and tops are wiped. Microwaves are cleaned inside and out. And the top and front of ranges are cleaned each visit. Sinks are polished. And floors are mopped.

Bathrooms are washed and sanitized – each fixture and shower and vanity/sink. Mirrors are cleaned, chrome is shined. By the time this is finished, there is a sparkle that welcomes any guest and cheers the home residents at the end of a busy day.

All areas are dusted – high for cobwebs, and lower for dust on furniture and baseboards. While deep cleaning may call for washing trim and baseboards, this maid service visit just keeps in good shape areas that have already been brought up to a high standard. At the end, all floors are vacuumed and possibly damp mopped (carpet or wood or tile, it depends.)

Special Needs

So what makes it hard or easy? How many pets are there in a house? How about clutter? While collections and tchotchkes may make it feel familiar and homey, they also mean cleaning just takes longer. Most customers realize this and are not surprised that their home requires extra upkeep.

And the benefits? What a long list this can be…but the main thing is the relief from having chores done, being free to entertain or just go out and pursue your current interest in time off from work with NO GUILT nagging in the back of your mind about a messy house.

Call the Blue Sparrow Cleaning dream team. We are all around the Asheville and surrounding areas. What have you got to lose?

It is the time of year to go crazy with cleaning! Whether you call it deep cleaning or spring cleaning as soon as daffodils appear and heavy coats get placed in the closet, the urge to clean our homes becomes overwhelming for many of us.

Maybe it is because we have been cooped up inside for too many weeks since a major holiday. Or because the winter heating system has layered dust ever so cleverly where once there was a shine. Or perhaps children and pets have spent restless, messy days indoors for bad weather and we are ready to push them all out into the fresh air and simplify yet again our living spaces. Either way, like the spring equinox, the drive to clean bursts forth.

Some people get busy at it themselves. Some call in the pros for an extra hand. (You can guess what we recommend : )

But even for those who tackle it themselves, what do you call it? Or if you contact us – what do you ask for? Deep Cleaning? Spring Cleaning? some hybrid of both?

Doesn’t matter.

In each case, it means all the cleaning you don’t get around to on a weekly or biweekly basis. For example – do you wet wash your baseboards each month? How about wiping gently the light fixtures above bath vanities? or ceiling fans?

Do you pull out a sofa to vacuum behind? Or the fridge?

How about windows or those areas in a double-hung window called a lock ledge? (Where the lock is – and dust gathers.) When was the last time you wiped the cabinet doors in the kitchen with some polish, or even the bathroom cabinets got a good “going-over”?

Now before you start suffering from analysis paralysis let me offer this caution. When the urge to clean comes calling – embrace it.

No need to be a perfectionist. Seize that energy and choose one of the tasks which you know will yield immediate results and add a bit of YAAY! to your reflection on what you accomplished that day.  But DO NOT add instead a nagging feeling of failure in this area!! Either choose and accomplish. Or make a simple plan to see what it costs to have someone else handle this once or twice a year. Yes, biweekly maid service is a wonderful ongoing blessing if you can swing it, and with our periodic task program you may never again reach that exasperation level of need.

However, if it is only a seasonal thing then seize the opportunity to ask for reinforcements. Take a day off to the park or garden center or mall. And return home to a Super Fresh and Clean home. (Be sure to pick up dinner and invite someone over for dessert or fun) Stretch out the luxury and embrace the Deep Cleaning Spring Cleaning madness without lifting a finger.♥

A quick congratulations to Rachel S. and her family who were the winners of our complimentary house cleaning!

We had a beautiful afternoon to take care of their home in Asheville.

And remember the survey question –

Which is the most important day to have the house clean….

Super Bowl Sunday or Valentine’s Day?

It was so close to a tie – but Valentine’s Day won by a narrow margin. It was so close!

And from that we can deduce that BOTH days are made more pleasant by starting with a clean house….

Why housecleaning makes a great gift

When is a gift really something else? Housecleaning is that way. At first, it appears to be a gift for a service at one’s home – and it is that. Yet it turns out to be something more.

When you choose to provide the labor and supplies to clean a home, you really give the recipient several things:

  • You give them time. To rest, to pursue a hobby, to spend time with loved-ones. Perhaps that dear one is yourself.
  • You give them relief. From stress associated with the desire to keep a home clean and welcoming, while balancing many other demands.
  • You give them support. Since you recognize their desire to keep a clean, refreshing home, you show them that you value that also – and want to help. It is not cheating to provide the funds for help without pushing the vacuum around yourself! It is an acknowledgement that you want to help.
  • You give them care. Sometimes people can use some strong nurturing – when a baby comes, when a loved-one is ill, when they are tired or times are tough.
  • You just show love. No one wins a medal of heroism for scrubbing their house. It is fine just to say I Love You another way.

So yes, you may have to present your gift in a creative way, but be assured they will get the message.

Or feel free to quote me.

What does it take to get ready for the holidays here in the mountains? Besides house cleaning??

Some folks have an ongoing list of special outings each year. Gingerbread houses to see, special music to enjoy, and perhaps decorating for parties.

But what about the extra preparation that we also feel is necessary to be ready for special guests and parties?

One idea is to do some extra house cleaning each day. Set aside a room to take care of every day of the week – with maybe one day for resting. Thoroughly get that room clean from top to bottom. You can try this after work or as part of your day.

Personally, the whole idea of adding that to what needs to be done already wears me out just thinking about it!

If it just gets to be too much – feel free to call. We are happy to serve customers in our area.

If you are in Asheville, Fletcher, Arden, Weaverville,  Candler, or in between we will work to get you into our system and ready for your special days!!!

So if the house is all cleaned up and you have time for fun…

  • Check out the Gingerbread houses at the Grove Park Inn
  • Candlelight at the Biltmore Estate
  • Walking downtown Asheville in the evening – stop for hot cocoa or chocolates at French Broad Chocolates
  • Biltmore Park is another wonderful spot for special holiday events and shops – and dining.

I mean who wants to dirty up a clean house!
